Who We Are
Our food is of course delicious, made fresh, uses seasonal and local produce where possible and is all cruelty free.
Megafauna was started by Chef Ben who has been Vegan for over 10 years. Megafauna started in 2017 as a small producer making cakes and catering for events. In 2018 Ben found the first official home for the business, nestled within the independent shops on the beautiful Wesley street in Southport. Megafauna café opened its doors to a sell out day on the 1st July 2018. Serving unique vegan sandwiches, fresh and seasonal salad, gluten free cakes and of course our famous brownies. In 3 years we made over 14 thousand sales.
We spoke to hundreds of non-vegans about veganism and gave them an opportunity to try great vegan food. We catered 5 weddings and 8 festivals and made over 300 birthday cakes. Held exclusive Christmas dining experiences for all 3 winters as well as 2 Veganuary events.
Our community and customer base grew so much that we decided it was time to find a new home to upgrade into. Our new site would be just around the corner in Cambridge Walks. Located in between Lord St and Chapel St within a Victorian style covered walkway it’s the perfect place to present everything we have learnt and built over the last 3 years.
We have a very busy kitchen at Megafauna making the best vegan and gluten free treats for you all to enjoy. We always have seasonal specials on so be sure to check the boards when you visit. If you have any allergies or dietary requirements then please let us know when you arrive.
Feel free to choose from our menu or to request particular dishes, especially if there is a theme to the event and you want the food to reflect that. We love a challenge at Megafauna and relish any excuse to get the cook books out and design a bespoke menu for you. We are happy to cater for small or large events up to 100 people.

I visited megafauna with my mum (non-vegan) and brother (vegan), and we were all really impressed by the cuisine on offer. We stopped in for lunch and couldn’t resist getting a plate with all the freshly made salads on, as well as a taste of the pasties and soup on the menu.
We were all really impressed by the flavours of our food and the seasonal feel to the menu. After a savoury course we were tempted by the delicious looking raspberry and coconut cake on offer, and the friendly host gave us an extra large portion to share between the three of us (as well as a second round of excellent coffees – so good my mum is thinking of switching to oat milk over diary permanently).
Overall, a really great experience and I’m so happy to find a vegan place like this in the small resort town!
Ben and the team provided amazing vegan food for a wedding shower I was having.
The food was simply some of the best vegan food I have had in the 8 years I have been a vegan. Everyone loved the food and the meat eaters left ready to convert to veganism 😂

Being a confirmed carnivore I went to visit Megafauna as much out of curiosity as anything else. Having never eaten Vegan did not know what to expect, needn’t have worried – the food was beautiful!
Had an Artichoke, watercress and cheese toastie with side salad.
Fantastic flavour combinations. Salad was super fresh with vibrant flavours. The toastie was tangy cheese with the artichoke lending a sweet nutty hint and the bread soft, warm with a satisfying crunch.
Accompanied by a wonderfully creamy Latté and, to finish, a generous slice of Lemon and Raspberry cake, the tartness of the lemon combined with a real burst of raspberry made it a perfect finish to a perfect lunch. Top Marks!
